Nesma presents with her company Nesma Al Andalus Danza
The traces of al-Andalus
Andalusian poetry danced
“Is the legacy of al-Andalus still alive in us? »
This is one of the questions Nesma asks herself when she turns to look at the path she has travelled. Why this passion for dance and Arab music? Through her shows, she questions and invokes the influence of the Arab-Andalusian civilization in our history, our customs and our mentality; this effaced link of our culture, Iberian, Mediterranean, European.
The trace refers to a living being that in movement. Only an animate being leaves an imprint, traces a path, marks a sign of this journey; that is to say, it transits emotion in time, it unfolds an experience. It is a remnant of the past updated in the present. It is a past converted into matter and projected into the future.
In Bazamat, “traces”, Nesma explores with passion the forgotten traces of a distant past, but it is one she feels as a fundamental part of her essence. She feels, in her body and her soul, that she was born to dance this music, to play on these rhythms, to animate these poems. The elegance of the choreographies echoes the refinement of the music and the pure beauty of the Arab-Andalusian poetry, often intimate and dreamlike. And, even when they celebrate joy and overflow with energy, the movements and sounds never lose that feminine sweetness so characteristic of her work. Strangely, we are far from Flamenco, this adored cousin with such different features, with whom she loves to share amusements.
Past, present and future come together in a show rich in images and emotions that insistently refer to this idea: the footsteps of a living being who travels over great distances, who dances over old traces and creates new ones.
