I am very happy to announce the release on Nesma Music label of the first album of a series dedicated to Egyptian Folk Dances: “Old Cairo”. This first volume of a series of 3 is going to be released in digital format in our online store next Friday, February 15.

In this new creation, Nesma expresses all the passion which she feels for Arabic music and the classic songs of Umm Kulthum. In this performance Nesma tells the artistic journey and life of the singer.

The ninth edition of the Raks Madrid international festival of Arabic music and dance will take place in April 2020. the festival is created to enable the dancers to understand essence of Arabic music as well as the means to interpret it through dance, and promote our art to a wider public.

Nesma will be in Japan in February for the second phase of the Muwashahat project Japan. Nesma will teach the choreographies and pass the auditions to perform in the Dance. The project is organized by Al-Andalus Japan Company codirected by Ema Yokozaki & Salima Orientaldance.

Nesma is touring in South Korea. The "KAFF Winter Intensive Course" teached by from November 26 to December 5 has been organized by the Korean Arab Culture and Art Institute located in Seoul.

A careful selection of emblematic music from the Diva Umm Kulzum used by Nesma in her tribute show premiered at the Arabesques Festival in Montpellier, France, in 2015.

The classic Neo-Andalusian dance retreat was one of the best-designed courses I have attended. Not only did Nesma introduce us to her style and approach to dancing to Andalusian music, her goal was to support our own artistic and dance development.

At first, I was perplexed why they’ve been attending this camp annually, and now that I’ve experienced why, I can’t wait to come back.

Nesma, a Spanish dancer and choreographer, begins her professional career in Cairo. Since the end of the 90s she has dedicated great part of her choreographic and academic work in revitalizing the Arab-Andalusian legacy through dance.

This choreographic work was created by Nesma to pay heartfelt and moving homage to the majestic diva of Arabic music, Umm Kulthum, marking the 40th anniversary of her passing.
